Key 3's Drop Trojanns

Posted: 01/13/2010 - by Jim Field

Denison got a game high 13 points, including a pair of important three pointers from reserve Bailey Ellerbeck to post a 41-30 win over Atlantic in girls Hawkeye 10 conference play Tuesday night.  Atlantic found themselves down 13-3 in the first quarter but held Denison without a field goal in the second as they tied the game at 15-all at halftime.  Atlantic jumped out to a quick 20-15 lead in the third quarter, but Ellerbeck came off the bench with the pair of three point baskets to key a 10-0 run to put the Monarchs up for good.  Liz Honke scored eight points and Paige Kennon had seven for Atlantic.  Season scoring leader Taylor Young was saddled with early foul trouble and picked up her fifth just seconds into the fourth quarter as she finished the game scoreless.  Atlantic also struggled from the free throw line, making only nine of their 21 tries.  Denison was only slightly better at 14 of 27.  The Trojanns fall to 2-7 overall and 2-6 in conference.
