Kuemper Uses Size, Speed to Down Trojans

Posted: 12/19/2009 - by Jim Field

Atlantic fell behind and tried to play catch up most of the night in a 68-60 loss to Kuemper Catholic in Carroll Friday night.  Six-foot-four junior Andrew Schleisman had a game high 21 points and six-foot-five junior Matt Berg had 15 points inside for the Knights while point guard Bryce Berg tossed in 18.  A 22-10 second quarter allowed Kuemper to take a 36-21 half time lead.  They built the margin to 21 points at 50-29 late in the third quarter.  Atlantic battled back though, as a 22-10 run got them within nine at 60-51 with two minutes left.  But the Knights hit enough of their free throws, making 13 of 21, all in the second half, to claim the win.  Chet Meneely led the Trojans with 19 points while Dalton Franken and Alec Guttenfelder each scored ten.  The Trojans fall to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Hawkeye 10 conference with the loss.
